Hp Compaq 8000 elite Small Form Factor
Im having a serious problem with installing new memory on my desktop. it is rejecting all the memory im trying to install. Im nearly positive these parts should be working in this desktop. Ive asked HP and G.Skill and both agree with me. Any info? The full story is here. Im looking for all the help I can get.

Are you mixing old and new ram or are you just using the new ram by itself? If you are mixing old and new then that is the problem.

The elite 8000 has about 3 different versions of it. Which one do you have?

1. Slim Form Factor
2. Convertible Minitower
3. Ultra Slim

Can you check your bios to see what version it says? There are some bios updates available. Also, have you tried resetting your cmos?

Bios is up to date.
What is cmos?

Does this relate to returning bios to factory settings, and will i need to update the bios again afterwards?

Basically the process resets the bios back to defaults and will sometimes clear up any memory incompatibility issues. Here is the process.

1. Unplug power from power supply.
2. Remove cmos battery from motherboard. It's a small round silver battery on the motherboard.
3. Press and hold power button on case for 10 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
4. Wait 10 minutes
5. Reinsert cmos battery
6. Reconnect power to power supply
7. Try booting up.

Yea, after you said this i looked it up. Its possible ill be able to do this from the bios without having to touch the mobo. If i dont have the option to from bios, ill try that. Do you want me to do that with the new ram or old ram in?

Okay, in the bios i restored it to defaults, but the memory didnt work.

When following your steps, do i want the old memory or new memory installed?

I followed your steps. Removed memory, removed the battery. After ten minutes, i put the battery back in then put in the new memory. Booted up and it didnt work

Maybe I have the wrong bios version... I found it through HP. I'm running V01.14

If its beeping 5 times then its a prevideo memory error.

Are you sure the memory is inserted fully?

I'm positive the memory is inserted fully. I've reinstalled this memory at least a hundred times, and I've re-inserted the old memory to use the computer (which is working just fine)

Can you try another brand ram? Maybe that specific board has an issue with Gskill ram? Try some crucial or kingston ram. What brand is the orginal memory? HP?

I probably could, but I've already returned one set of memory. The original brand is HP, ill start looking into other memory then.
