How much for my 8800's?

?? except for the gtx 200 series. they wipe the floor with everything ati has ever put out.

I said about the 200 series, when i put 20 it was typo. I would like to show you the whole of the 4870 x2 range.I would sooner have a few of them in crossfire than i would a few GTX 295 in SLI.

For one, the prices are similar, ATI are a little cheaper than the nvidia ones, but the nvidia are still running GDDR3 memory while ATI are on GDDR5. Put simply, 1GB of GDDR5 is equivilant to about 1.75-2 of GDDR3.

Also the ATI has 2 cores, compare that to the 1 of the nvidia and you are looking at hugely increased performance. Looking at specs, the GTX 295 is a little over 1 gigaflop of processing power, the ATI rampage 4870 x2, each single card peaks at 2.4 gigaflops, and at £100 cheaper, that is incredible increase in performance and it is an incredible price in comparison!!!

Still, in my opinion this is an extreme comparison, £400 for any single video card is huge overkill and purely for bragging rights, you can spend half of that and still be able to play any game on full settings without the system showing any strain.

Well, you can get an XFX 9800GT off Newegg for the equivalent of £94. Not sure what the price is in the UK, but if you were selling to someone in the US you could probably get £163... that's reasonable, I wouldn't pay much more than that if I was in the market, but then I don't know what the UK prices are like.

hahaha yea i was pondering that too, not that much of a graphics guru without knowledge of graphics products and prices :P

He's just asking how much he should expect for a pair of used graphic cards.

If you're talking about actually messing with vector graphics and photo editing, he really is a graphics guru.

Yea i understand what it means and what not, it's just a little ironic that he is a guru in graphics and yet has a post asking about a fairly trivial thing about graphics cards.

i (and im fairly sure thatteamhex) knows that he was probably only after a second opinion or a ball park figure from several others who know

Haha, Thanks, Omar! :)

i'd expect you could get around £180-200 for both of them danny, good luck with the sale

That's a pretty sweet price. Thanks, Dustin. Don't know if I'm actually going to sell them yet, just wanted a rough idea.

if your gonna upgrade Danny, ill give you £50, a case of beer (of your choice) and a sheep, if i can have your GPU's :P

NOO...

The type in itself has nothing to do with the capacity; you're mixing up bandwidth and size. 1GB is 1GB no matter what; however, GDDR5 on 256-bit (ATI style) offers roughly the same bandwidth as 512-bit GDDR3 interface (NVIDIA style). The benefit in the end is smaller die which means 1)lower power consumption 2)less heat 3)cheaper card (though with the price-wars going on the last doesn't really benefit the end-user all that much, but ATI since their profit margins are higher).

Sli 8800 gts should still perform pretty good unless you absolutely need the latest and greatest

Yeah i agree,Tbh i dont realy see any point in you buying another card/s just yet because even my GT alone can handle pretty much anything i throw at it on medium/high settings so your 2 gts in SLI should still be able to max anything out with decent framerates :)

What card/s was you looking at dan?

Erm, let me think about it! :P

Well, I don't know. I originally thought my MOBO was causing me some problems, so I started looking at news one, then I started considering a single card, but I think it's looking to either be my RAM or PSU not being big enough.

Yeah, you're right though. The GTS' will last me for a good while longer, thanks!

if you hadn't been a cheapskate and you'd bought the 620W version instead of the 520, you wouldn't have had the problem.. I'm sure! :P

Whats to think about? You get a sheep! :D

Yeah probably your Psu,But have you not got one of those readers still that tells you how much your systems using?

Haha! Sheep!

Yeah, the most I've seen it use is 470watts. So it's getting close... I don't really know for sure yet though.

Aaah right ok, my bad. I am going off what i was told by one of my friends who recently got a couple of new cards. I asked him the memory and he said "1GB GDDR5, it's equivlant to about 2GB or just under GDDR3". He knows a fair deal about computers, alot more than i do in certain areas, so i took what he said to be true. I'll tell him of the mistake when i next see him though :P

yeh danny you tool you should have just went all out and got the tx750 like i did!!

i'm sure ive got plenty of headroom with my tx750 psu for future upgrades (2x4870's)
