How do I tell what Motherboard I have?

I'm not that great with PCs and stuff....but I want to replace some of my ancient PC Components with more upgraded things...like more RAM and a cheap quad-core CPU since I'm pretty sure this is only a single core 2.00ghz.

From my tiny knowledge of computers...I need to know if my motherboard can handle more updated parts, right? How do I dig into what my mother board is?

After I do that...how would I determine how good of components I may add to it that it can be?

Direct download link to speccy:

You then find out if your mobo can handle it by either posting it here and we will find out for you or by googleing your motherboard and finding out from the results. The most accurate will of course be from the manufacturer's site, but that doesn't mean other sites aren't correct. Generally if 2 or 3 sites all say you can support these processors, it will be correct

I saw that there was an auto-upload feature inside the program but my computer lacks an internet connection...[I think it doesn't have one of those cards that help you pick up your wifi signal from the other room]

So I made quick jpegs:

On a side note....this PC does not have an internet PCI card thingy right? I checked my network connection lists and it couldn't find anything so I'm guessing it's that ancient?

you have a dell socket AM2 motherboard.

As for internet, you should be able to connect through the ethernet port on the motherboard.

probably at dell.com
Just look for the installed factory processors for it to see what t was capable of housing.

The only thing cost effective to upgrade would be the memory-put 2-512 MB chips-so you can stay in dual channel mode-your OS is 32-bit-so it wouldn't be worth putting 2-1Gig chips in as you wouldn't be able to use it all. IMO-save your money for a complete upgraded system.

I"m probably going to have to re-purchase a new mother board which is what I was hoping not , with some miracle, have to do...but I may have to. My friend gave me a disc for Windows 7 64bit OS.

My question now is...would all mother boards fit into the casing this PC came in? The Tower I think it's called...? Because I should go out shopping for a new one. Tips?

you will be better off buying a new case also. The factory dell case has little to no ventilation at all. You should be able to pick one up reasonable from newegg new, or check your local craigslist for good deals.

Few more questions...

1) What are a few of the best CPUs I can currently install into this?
2) How much would I be able to sell this entire thing for on Craigslist including the monitor?

Seems that your best option is an AM2 5600+ Dual Core processor. I am not sure on the best it will support, but Googleing it shows that the 5600+ will work.
