How do I check fps?

Just recently got into pc gaming. I know it's a noob question but how do I check what a games fps is running at?

You can download fraps and use that to show your FPS.

Different games have different code on how to show your FPS. You can just google it.

A good example is in CS:S you must type "cl_showfps 1" into the game console.

Or you could just download fraps as stated above^^ ^.^

Yes FRAPS is a must have, really. Great for taking screendumps as well.

"cl_showfps 2" would be better, gives an slower, easier value to read.

Unfortunately the cl_showfps 1 meter is updating way too fast for someone to get an actual reading of the current number displayed, but cl_showfps 2 compensates for that.

2 = smooth FPS
