Help with overclocking my x2 6000+ 3.1ghz

I meant your memory voltage not your CPU. Leave everything set the way it is as far as your bus/ CPU and HT. Change your memory back to 800 from 677 and raise your (memory) voltage up one. That way your memory would not be underclocked and you would not have to change anything else.

Yes I know but I wanted to make the speed even higher but i decided that it would be too much so Im gonna do what you said now

Just let it run for awhile and make sure your stable and the temps are good. After that if you want go higher on your CPU you can always just bump the memory back to 677 if you start overclocking it to much. Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of whats going on as far as the ratios between everything now.

Just stay under 1.5V on the CPU. And the memory, dont know what brand and model you have to tell you about its voltage, generally DDR2 800 is between 1.8 - 2.1 voltage.

I ran 3dmark06 and the cpu reached 62 'C and kinda froze so I alt f4'd the thing.

I guess it shouldn't be a problem in gaming though the highest I reached was 50' so Ill probably wont go over 55'C.

I can also turn on my ghetto cooling (read page 1 or 2 not sure) to lower it.

Im gonna try 3dmark06 with my ghetto cooling now ^^

Ghetto cooling:D Yea 62c is getting up there. Are you using a stock cooler? If so see about getting a better aftermarket cooler. As far as the locking up, it could be the memory since you set it back to 800 or was that still at 677? If it is at 800 did you bump the memory voltage up by one?

Good coolers for a pretty good price.

I guess it's too much for my CPU :(

It was working fine but my computer reset on the cpu test.

Yeah I'm using stock cooling, I haven't really been considering getting a aftermarket cooler because I don't really need to overclock. If they aren't expensive I can get one. :o

And yes I did increase the voltage by 0.1 so it's 1.9 from 1.8.

Should I lower my cpu voltage or keep like this because I don't think the temps will go that high in games.

There is one of your problems. Your memory at default is suppost to be 2.2V. Set it to 2.2V. 1.8 or 1.9 is to low.

Well gotta go, wife hollering:cool:. Just dont go over 1.5V with your CPU and 2.3V with your memory.

Those fans that you said are nice but I don't want to spend anything more than 30 dollars

i live in poland btw so free shipping doesnt count :P

Damn it froze again at the cpu test

I guess it's too much for my Brissy :(

Games should be ok tho, I need to get a cheap aftermarker cooler on it

are you sure? in the bios it was 1.8 and increasing by 0.4 and 0.5 were in red

eh?

Suppost to be 2.2V

PC2-6400 (800MHz) 4-4-4-12 2.2V http://www.patriotmem.com/products/detailp.jsp?prodline=5&catid=2&prodgroupid=38&id=317&type=1

Gigabyte boards have the tendency to default any memory to 1.8V

No dont think they would go for Poland:). If you can find one, its cheaper and a good cooler. The Cooler Master Hyper TX

Yeah I did increase it to 2.2V but it froze like i said I think it's the CPU temp max for it is 62'C

I need a aftermarket cooler that will lower it by about 10'C

Yea 62c is getting up there. I think the Stock voltage for that processor is 1.35-1.40. So if you get better cooling you can push it to 1.50 pretty safe.

You could just back it off to 3.2 and see how it does. Get a better cooler later on and try again.
