Stock Android means the default, baseline Android that hadn't been modified unlike as in the usual Kindle Fire package.

When it comes to Android tablets I really don't know an awful lot about them, but you'll definitely want to root the Kindle with a vanilla version of Android since the Amazon Android that's pre-installed on it isn't great (got a Kindle Fire in the house).

How about a refurbished Google Nexus 7 for $110? Brand new they're about $160 so you can save some money. The reviews on this refurbished one look good, not sure how you feel about refurbs though but I thought I'd point it out anyway: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Google-T...3969&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=google+nexus&psc=1

Not too sure how you're a developer when you don't even know what 'stock Android' is though!

That means you said you want to develop apps, but then said this.

That's why Geoff said buy a Kindle. You can root it and install a vanilla (stock) version of Android on it.
why not buy a android tablet with android pre loaded(Not Kindle.)

What do you think of the Nexus 7 I linked to?

It's great that you want to develop apps, best of luck! :)

But do learn what stock Android is first. ;)

OK. My luck with these cheapo Android tablets hasn't been great because the ones I've bought in the past often don't come with the Google Play store installed meaning you're essentially left with a very nice digital photo frame, but here goes: $50 and it has what looks to be a stock version of 4.4 installed: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Touch-...43&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=android+tablet&psc=1
