GTX 285 Video Card Benchmarks

On websites such as this, http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html , where they list the GeForce GTX 285 as better than the GeForce GTX 295, I was wondering if anyone knows what GeForce GTX 285 model they are talking about, because I have seen so many 1 Gb and 2 Gb models. I was also wondering why the GTX 295 is more expensive if the 285 performs better?
Thanks

Probably because they were not running the 295 in SLI mode.

The GTX 295 is a dual GPU card which can be run in SLI mode,
thus the higher price.

So then how should I decide between the 285 2gb and 295?
I want it for CAD and other engineering programs.
Thanks

I don't think you will want desktop gaming cards such as those for programs like CAD. I think you will be better suited with a card from the quadro series.

So your saying that something like the Quadro fx4000 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133125 will work better than the GTX 295 even though the massive memory decrease? How about if I am running multiple monitors?
And also how about for all other general applications?
Thanks again

Yes.

The Quadro cards are geared for CAD/CAM applications.

A great gaming card may not work well at all for CAD/CAM.

First of all...welcome to CF:) I see you are pretty new here:D

If I was building a specialty computer to run hardcore CAD programs...I would really go to a CAD forum. There might be a few members here that have experience with these programs and the correct hardware to use...but overall you might not get the best support here as far as CAD.

This looks like a forum that could really answer your questions.

I am by no means trying to steer you away from CF...but I think you can understand what I am saying. I would hate to see you spend a ton of money for a computer and it not be the best selection for you.

There are some really smart people here that can help you with about every aspect of hardware and software. Stick around for a while...I'm sure you'll learn something:D
