Genuine windows software, please help!

You must use an official Microsoft XP OEM install disk. You can't use say Dell's reinstallation cd. It's legal to do this so you can get rid of all the bloatware that OEM's put on their machines.

An OEM is one disk, one license, one system.

That is all there is to it.

If one is to use an OEM from a mate down the road that has already installed it then this is against the EULA.

Please go legit Voonee.

Ok. But how would traders buy and sell laptops, because they would need to spend £70 for every laptop to sell it on.

If one has an official OEM version of an operating system then one might be termed a system builder such as Dell or Compaq etc.

However a person can buy an unbranded OEM and install it on his machine as he is considered by Microsoft to be the system builder.

The machine may be a newly constructed machine or an old scrappy laptop, it makes no difference.

If you can find the same version/SP OEM disk that the laptop had (as in a XP home/pro/SP1/2/3. You can use it for the install and use the key on the laptop. Then get it activated through microsoft (but I have had it activated online before).

Question: Im asking now because im confused. I know he can install a retail if he had the key. But for his oem say XP it has to be the same installation disc for the same model. Is this correct?

He can't use a oem Dell installation on say a Toshiba. Right?

Wouldn't want to anyway. always used pro retail. Just buy it and done.
A oem i have when bought it was a Asus Eee for traveling it had to come with a disc also.Just my requirement. I don't want to get into this mess.

Wrong!

A Dell OEM can be used in any machine.

When activating it will ask for a fresh code, insert code from bottom of laptop/side of PC and normally it activates online.

If not, its onto the phone.

Normal question that is asked on the phone is:

On how many computers is this software installed? And the answer is.....

I've had OEM disks re-activated over the phone for when my mothers PC hard drive failed I had to reinstall Windows XP Home I explained the situation to the Microsoft employee on the end of the phone he gave me a phone code to put in and it worked this was probably 3-4 years ago.

I'm not saying this can't be done but my point is that it is a fact that an OEM can only be used on one machine and one machine only.

If a person were to use any old OEM and using the key already on the machine then this would imply that it has been used and in this case one must refer to my first paragraph.

If anyone can point out to me where it says it can be done in any OEM EULA then please do so.

Now if this were a brand new unbranded OEM disk then it would have a key and a sticker in the packaging

All I'm trying to do here is put Voonee straight when it comes to MS requirements.

A Dell OEM CANNOT be used on a Toshiba. The OS reinstall disc provided by manufacturers is tied to the COA on the bottom of the machine. Believe me, when I was just getting into computers I tried a Gateway disc on a Dell and it didn't work.
