Forum Idea - Computer Bible

Looks like a good idea, but I can't really write all I know about computers, it's too much...
It should be grouped in domains like.. Programming, Operating Systems etc

It would have to be, otherwise it would be extremely incoherent. I also vote against using the word "Bible" as well.

The definition of 'bible' (lowercase) just means reference book or collection of informative writings. I'm positive the OP didn't mean anything sacreligious about the term. Regardless, 'Computer Forum Grimoire' sounds way better.

Yeah it has nothing to do with religion or the word itself other than that I think the term "Bible" is just over used and a cliche. If this does happen I would recommend a more savvy or unique title to it. I also say don't make it a democracy either, make it a republic. If you let everyone get a say in it, it will be convoluted with crap and nothing will ever get done.

I agree tlarkin 100%. If we don't hear back from the OP soon, ill go ahead and set something up. Some of the wiki options I've seen are ok in their free state but the premium packages look a lot nicer. So I might bite the bullet and pay the monthly subscription fee to help get the ball rolling. Its only like $5 a month.

The site owner could download and install a free wiki and then add the subdomain of wiki.computerforum.com and that would be all that is needed.

I don't get why it would be a "Bible" but the idea is pretty good.

Still, I don't think it would stop those redundant threads that are made each day about the same topics because most new members don't look through the whole forum before asking something. They usually just join and first thing they do is post their question.

No it wouldn't but maybe a wiki would be better than a bunch of stickies, and no one but a certain limited number of people would modify the wiki

I just sent Ian a proposal about the idea

I agree it won't stop the redundent threads, but if new members saw we had a wiki, some may consider heading there before posting a previously answered threa. Also, it would give us an opportunity to point them in that direction when they post something everyone knows has already been answered.

Well, I think the biggest benefit would be the tutorials people could write.
