Far Cry 2 screenshots

Well I just got Far Cry 2 on my computer so I decided to take a few screenshots at Ultra High quality settings.

With my 8800GT (G92), FC2 defaulted all my settings to "Very High" and it ran smooth, for the screenshots I upped it all to Ultra High and installed the new nvidia 180 beta drivers (if they even make a diff.). Even at Ultra High the game ran decently on my comp but I'd rather stay at Very High settings.

so its not as pretty as Crysis but it definitely runs smooth and with less FPS spikes. As I move around from place to place it loads textures without any noticeable hiccups and fire-fights don't kill the framerate like they did in Crysis. The vegetation looks better than it was in crysis and it supports Antialiasing completely so they are sharp and crisp.
As for the game itself, you start out by picking your character from a selection of a few guys, I haven't been too far into the game yet but the story looks like its going to be decent for an FPS.

Excellent shots, been waiting for these. I'm going to get the game today, glad to hear it runs well on an 8800GT at that resolution, hopefully that mean my laptop will handle it great!

glad to see they decided to make a game instead of a tech demo this time around

looks interesting, i will probably pick up a copy. thanks for the screens :D

I just looked and it comes with its own benchmark utility where you can specify each setting and run benches with multiple settings very quickly. I queued up 3 different benches one with Ultra High, Very High, and High with 2x AA and Ultra High had about 15-20 FPS while High had 30-45 FPS. Between High and Ultra High, I didn't immediately notice anything majorly different so even if you don't have a maxed out comp, it seems as though the gaming experience is the same (much unlike how Crysis was).

wow, if i had to judge the year the game was made by these screenshots, I would say the game is like 4 years old. :( I excpected it to look better really.
either way, I'll still probably get it next week (if its released here by then),'hope when everything is moving the game will look better.

my brother has had the game for a while, the vendor sends him free crap all the time to promote new products.

He says it is cool. I am waiting on Fallout 3! I will pick up FarCry 2 though, I loved the first one.

Well the beginning setting is kindof a barren desert-like place so it does look a little bland. I would say it may look a year or two old but not 4 years (Far Cry 1 is 4 years old and it doesn't look as good)

Mines been dispatched, I should get it tomorrow. Collector's Edition, Gigdy Gigdy!

I've heard it isn't as good as it's been hyped up to be though?

Well maybe when someone busts out farcry 2 screenshots on a 4850 or 4870 we can see what the game was intended to look like...

:-P

I may or may not buy it, with fallout 3 looming, I don't know if I should wait or not..

well, its on the same engine as Crysis, wich has officially been declared to be rubbish. so this cant possibly be good. :P

It's not using Cryfail this time ;)

Ubisoft has developed a new engine specifically for Far Cry 2, called Dunia, meaning "world" or "earth" in Arabic but also used in many languages including Farsi, Turkish, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Swahili, Assyrian, Indonesian and Malay.[23]

The engine will take advantage of multi-core processors as well as multiple processors and support DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10.[24] Only 2 or 3 percent of the original CryEngine code is being re-used, according to Michiel Verheijdt, Senior Product Manager for Ubisoft Netherlands. Additionally, this engine will be less hardware-demanding than CryEngine 2, the engine used in Crysis.[25]

He's from the Netherlands, he must be right... lol
