Hey I don't know how to copy this error, but for the past 2 days I get this message in a box

X ERROR\ERROR

Window cannot find "ERROR\ERROR". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

BOX right here that says OK

I'll get my camera and take a pic. (have to add attachment in a bit)

Does anyone no what this is and how to get rid of it? Also I'm not trying to type anything it just comes up. I either d/l a new ATI driver or I think before this I d/l and new version of super anti spyware? Not sure of either of these two just my best guess. Can anyone help?????

Looks like a friend of yours or a playful hacker is playing a prank on you.

Dunno. The other thing is I just hooked up my daughters laptop wirelessly to our network. I dunno what's going on??? It only comes on 1 or 2 a day, but it is annoying. I was thinking it was this super antispyware thing, because I updated it and it seemed to happened afterwards. I think I'll un-install the program and see if this helps.

OK so I deleted the Super anti spyware and that didn't help. The other thing I should mention is this error only comes up on boot up and I've notice over the past 2 days the computer is slowing to open applications such as word and excel. Is this a virus and what steps can I do to get rid of it? Should I have this thread moved to the anti virus/spyware forum? Or is this just some sort of windows error?

Thank you.....

I'm still positive it could be a prank trojan or whatever it's called. However I am not very knowledgeable on the subject, so I will leave that for others to answer.

I doubt it's a prank. My wife and my daughter both use the computer. Well now only my wife she does that facebook thing so who no's...... How do I get rid of it.

OK so I went to my control panel and looked at what was installed or updated in the past couple of days. The only thing I can find is Malwarebytes, super anti spyware, ccleaner, ATI self loader for my 4870 on this comp, a microsoft visual C+ + 2010 X64 and microsoft silverlightupdate don't nno what this is, but I think it automaticly d/l. I deleted Malwarebytes, super anti spyware, ccleaner rebooted and still got the error message. I was going to reload the stuff back on, but still no fix. Anything someone can suggest???

It's probably a trojan or something like that, so removing software like that won't help I'm sure. Wait until our expert on these things comes online, he'll know what to do. He has this stuff on the clipboard all ready to paste into the post.

Superantispyware wouldn't have been your problem anyway, as its a really good program that i use along side of malwarebytes sometimes. Lets get some scans run on your system so we know what we are dealing with.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Do you need it running at startup?

I don't no what that is. Also my internet is really really slow. I have fios wth the 25mb d/l and when I click on any page it takes from 5-30 sec to load a page. If I try and click on something it says msn is not responding. I give it a few more seconds and it starts to work. I'll delete this stardock impulse file, but how do I do this???

I searched impulse on my start up and found that it was connected to a video game my son n law had loaded called demi god. I went to the control panel, and it's not there. Where or how can I delete this. I might have went to the control panel the other day and deleted it because I don't play that game. It was in there from a year ago. I did however right click on properties and clicked the box so it will not work on start up.... Also I did try to right click and delete on the folders and readme files and say couldn't find the path and wouldn't delete. I'll try and reboot and see if there still there.

Post an uninstall list using hijackthis, OPen hijackthis, click on open misc tools section, click on open uninstall manager, click on save list and save it, then copy and paste it back here.

John BTW, no more error. Thank you soooo much. You instructions were awesome. If your ever in so cal, let me know I'll buy you a beer or if your under 21 I'll buy you an in-n-out burger, fries and a coke......:D Do you see anything else I need or can get rid of. I was thinking about all the old games that were loaded my daughter doesn't play anymore. Like I said other than a couple of steam games ms office I don't use anything else. I do need adobe for viewing and probably a few others, but I want to speed this thing back up.

Thanks again.....

Uninstall Adobe acrobat 4.0 as its old and has security vulnerabilities.

Then go here to download the latest version.

just uncheck mcafee security scan up top right before downloading.

My recommendation would be to uninstall anything that you don't use anymore. Also would recommend downloading and running Ccleaner which will delete temporary files and such which should get back some of your speed.

Also it may be time for a disk defrag but vista's defrag program sucks. I would highly recommend downloading and running auslogics disk defrag or defraggler.

However, depending on how old this system is and when the last time a fresh install was done, it may be time for a fresh install. Windows will slow down over time and usually only a fresh install will bring life back to the system.
