Do you REALLY appreciate your computer?

I have no friend

I used to have a neat computer. It had GTX 570 1280 MB, 8 GB RAM, intel i7. This was over a year ago, before Sandy was released, so imagine it back then. I lost it 3 weeks ago. I think about it all the time, every day. It could still max the latest games! Over a year later!

It wasn't untill AFTER I lost it that I realized what I had.

Do you appreciate your computer? Do you expect it to be there waiting for you, every day? Do you?

Yeah man I appreciate mine because I see more PC more as an investment than as a computer. :D

Two months or so ago I had to repair my main rig, I had to replace the PSU and motherboard because both died for various reasons, and whilst I was waiting for the new PSU and board to arrive, I had to use my old PC, the one with the Athlon 64, 1GB of RAM, 6600 GT and XP. That PC was slow, mainly because the 6600 GT had nowhere enough power to drive a 1920x1080 1080p monitor, but yeah it was then that I started to appreciate my main rig, and also be glad that I had a spare machine sitting around. :D

My PSU and motherboard got ruined as well. The Motherboard doesn't even Beep when you remove hardware.

Yeah I ruined my board. :D and the PSU just kind of killed itself. :/

The board won't beep unless you installed an internal speaker, and it will only then beep if you have installed incompatible or faulty hardware, or if a POST was a failure or successful. I posted a whole list of beep codes on here somewhere before.

I'm on a netbook with linux mint. It is alright, but I miss the big screen. The VGA connection only makes it worse.

I spend my free time drinking vodka/smoking. my netbook only show shity quality movies on a small screen since it doesn't have a gpu.

Here's an idea, go out and socialize and meet people. That way you won't be so dependent on your computer as a friend.

No, I am forever alone. My computer isn't just a friend. The lover I share those static nights with. It is a family member. My child I helped to create. It is my all.

Have you tried a new PSU? My PSU is broke causeing no show from the Motherboard (I can get a short LED and fan show from an old 20 pin OEM PSU). YOurs might be fine if you can just test it.

Hmm. . I still have a classic computer, that old P4 CPU. Its 7 years old, I just use it for XP purposes. Works great till now. PSU is some colorsit company, donno which one is it. It is seriously just a device and nothing else to me. It served me a lot, but I had also to serve it too, like renewing the anti-virus all time, maintaining it.

Dont appreciate it. I paid money for it, it owes me. If it acts up I talk bad to it and make threats. Will take you apart and build another one just like you.

Sure, I put a lot of time, money, and effort into it, but it's just another computer. millions more just like it. I own it, it does not own me. I'm very passionate about it, i keep it clean, and I like to show it off, but it's just an item.

my current laptop is shite and want to destroy it but its for college so i have to live with it.

but my pc, it might have bad specs compared to the current i7's and all that but I cherish her like my baby and will always have the memories of receiving all the parts for it. The excitement of installing the mobo when I got it. The frustrations of not posting because the jumpers we're on the wrong spot and finding out that such a low end pc can run skyrim at low settings at 30fps made me happy.
when i have my new build, this one will always be my baby and will continue to upgrade even though it might not be the same spec, it will always be my first custom build and has basically consumed my llife

I'll remember the day when I first built my PC too, and how excited I was. :) I think everybody remembers their first custom build surely?

Yeah, it may not sound like an impressive build but its always better than an OEM thing, I loved the satisfaction I got when my single core got a better bench than my friends x2 4400+ simply because he just bought an OEM junk thing, I think it was an old Acer aspire tower thing.

Well, I mean i'm proud of the build and everything but I don't like cuddle my computer in bed and make love to it if that's what you mean. The step up from a single core athlon is ridiculously huge of a leap, so I very much appreciate the ease of use and upgraded functionality of my current. I never thought i'd own something so nice.

Mine isn't the latest and greatest, but I built it with my own hands and I do appreciate it. I rely on it for some pretty important stuff including medical record storage and research for family members. It's not just for F@H, ripping CDs, and entertainment.

When it does break down, I have to use a Toshiba laptop... with Vista. So that's an incentive to keep my own rig running as smoothly as I can.
