Do NOT use Trend Micro!

Trend micro has FORCED me to use Windows Update and to install their toolbar/extensions. Their antivirus also has shut down my machine for updates I never gave it permission to and it even removed my desktop background leaving behind a boring black desktop.

TL;DR - Trend Micro sucks, avoid it at all costs.

Weird. Been using Trend's Worry Free Business Security for over 3 years now and no problems like that to report at all...

I've never had an issue with Trend.

You probably didn't use the customize install option and just went "Click click click. Oh hey it installed! WTF? Software, you suck!"

It's up to you if you want to run Windows Update. Trend will just tell you if there are updates you should apply. It's up to you to actually install them. You can always turn off those notifications.

I have Windows Update turned off permenantly but somehow two days later it is reenabled and installing updates again.

You probably got a notification from windows saying you had a security risk and clicked on fix. It doesn't enable by itself after its been disabled.

It can re-enable itself if you click on the action center notification that pops up saying you aren't secure, or from time to time when you open Windows Update the updater itself has to update, and when that happens it can reset your settings back to recommended.

As for the toolbars, you need to click custom install, and read carefully because what looks like a license agreement with an agree checkbox is actually asking about installing a toolbar or another trial program.

There's really no reason to disable Windows Update unless you're worried that the cracked copy you're currently using will become invalidated.

As stated above, you didn't read the install options.

I wasn't aware that Trend actually had a toolbar. Seems like it's only available in some versions of Titanium which are the consumer versions of Trend.

Turn off auto updates service in services. I use Bitdefender Free. I've tried them all and I'm quit happy with Bitdefender, although it caused problems with FS2004 on the desktop so I ditched it. I have no anti-virus on the desktop, just the laptop. I use Sandboxie and if I need to transfer files to the desktop I scan with malwarbytes, clamwin and SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition.

I used trend micro 2 years ago and i didn't have any problems...regarding WIndows update...i keep them disabled, because my pc start acting weird everytime Windows install some updates...fyi now I use Bitdefender total security...

What OS are you using? What do you mean it acts weird?

Keeping Windows up to date is essential if you computer to run as good as possible...

Every now and then you get the odd update that goes wrong. If you know which specific update that is then don't install it.
