DO I need a new psu

Is mine too weak

i have a "wpower' 480 WATT POWER SUPPLY 16amps ont the 12v rail

I just bought new ram for my computer which is faster, requires a higher voltage
and is now in dual channel.

my computer starts up fine and fast but when i initialize my video card ex>"start and nvidia demo" (mad mod mike 1280x1024) my computer restarts.

i was wondering if anyonw could help me with this issue

these are my system specs.

mobo: MSI 865PE neo2 P v.2.x

ram:OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Platinum System Memory (cas 2.3.2.5)

video card: evga e-geforce 7800 gs co superclocked.

CPU: Pentium 4 3.4E (prescott) 800mhz fsb hyperthreaded.

one huge 120mm 100cfm fan on case.

zalman cnps9500led cpu cooler. (arctic silver 5)

1 zip 100 drive
1 lite on dvd dl/rw/ram drive
1 old 48x cd-rom drive
1 seagate 160gb internal sata 1 harddrive
1 5 port usb pci card
1 lan pci card
1 modem 2 port phone modem pci
1 northwood internal pci tv tuner card

if i do need a power supply how many watts would you reccomend:eek:

hiya, first up 16A is NOT ENOUGH, its barely scraping it for an extreme low spc system, lol... yo have a 7800GS a P4 3.4Ghz and all that other stuff, this needs to be chnged immediately. So the answer to your first question is yes, you do need a new PSU.

Secondly, you should know that using a poor quality or sub-standard PSU for extended amounts of time can damage your ocmponents due to under-voltage, this is obviously not a desirable thign to have.

Lastly, PSU's are advertised in Watts, but that means absolutely jack all, its the marketing department gone crazy, 600w PSU means that it uses 600w of power from the mains outlet... The specs is what you need to pay attention to... For a system like yours I recommend an absolute minimum of 28-30A on the 12v rail, i strongly recommend dual 12v rails and to be safe i would point you in the direction of at least >35A @ +12v.

The easiest way to find the best PSU for you is for you to tell us your budget, how much do you have to spend on a new PSU, bare in mind that more money really does pay in situations like this, so dont skimp.

i just bought the cpu videocard and the ram within 4 months

my budget is limited but what would you reccomend?

it is really frustrating starting a game and then ity reboots after 10-15 seconds

The 20+/-4 pin means it will work in either a 20-Pin or 24-Pin motherboard. I believe yours is a 20-Pin.
