Cooling suggestions?

My graphics card is running a bit hot even at stock. stock is 66C 100% OCd is 69C 100%. I actually touch one of the little black chips on the back and it burned my finger...*dumb*

Which would be the best way to cool it? Adding RAMsinks, getting a PCI slot fan card, or replacing the stock GPU HSF? Any suggestions on a brand or model also would be helpful.

Well, as I like to be cheap, I can say placing an 80mm fan on it will cool it pretty good :) But if you can't mount it, it's not a "permanent" cooling solution, and can fall off easily.

Evercool makes good cooling devices. Their "nighthawk" model is pretty cheap. Vantec, Thermaltake, AeroCool, all good brands.

I guess I could tape it to and old 60mm fan mounting bracket and tape it to a slot opening. Should I put it on the underside where the GPU fan is or on top where the (im guessing this is what they are) memory chips are?

I put mine on the top of the card, so it would rest on top and not fall off. This might not be ass effective as putting it directly on the core, but it saved an overheating 5900XT card from overheating, so i think it still works well.

if you can find a permanent way to mount it, do that. it's jsut not safe havning a fan "rest" on hardware.

The also have things called PCI fans, if you have an open expansion slot all you do it put it in, plug in the plug, and wham, an extra fan. Some of then are really powerful too.

A PCI-slot fan will only draw air out from the case, they aren't too effective for direct VGA cooling, where you need to blow air ON the card. It can be effective if you have an exhaust and an intake for the card, but that's a bit tricky to do. The CPU fan blows air onto the HSF, same for NB cooler, and most other coolers...VGA cooler should do the same unless paired with anotehr fan that can make it an intake/exhaust setup.

it could still be useful for moving the hot air away from the card quicker then if he didnt have it, you can also clean out the fan/heatsink, since they get dirty very quickly.

True, I'd jsut make sure that wasn't the ONLY thing displacing hot air in the case, or cooling the video card.

Really, I wish the AGP slot would be more in the middle of the PCI slots. So you coudl run a PCI-slot fan on TOP of the card to remove the hot air before it rises to the CPU, and the cooling of the GPU would be on the bottom as normal. But since AGP is on direct top, that's not possible :( Same with PCI-E too i think.

that's a nice price, 3 fans $21, not to mention the mounting device. if it fits in ur case it might be worth it.

well a exhaust fan in the lower front of your case does very well also.
( at least.. if the card heatsinkfan is blowing the hot air that way. )
my xfx6800GT is at 45* idle because of that one. and the xfx's are known for being hot

My PCIe card is in between the PCI slots and the PCIe x1 slots. I am trying to find some PCIe x1 fans.
