New build, so everything went well with the clean xp install and then the screen says your computer will restart in 10 seconds. I did see the windows logo for a few seconds but then it never boots up. I hear the computer fans going but the desktop never appears. Please help.

Test to make sure the new drive is not faulty as well. What brand and model of drive did you get?

Seagate 1TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB/sata-6G. Brand new right out of the box this afternoon. As a matter of fact I built this computer last weekend with the same model hard drive and was have trouble and reported a clicking sound to the forum and they alerted me that it was probably the hard drive. Brought it in to COMP USA this afternoon and they tested it and confirmed the hard drive was bad and they replaced it but would not install it for me unless I paid. Brought it home, did it myself, then installed XP in about 2 hours and then files were copied and then the screen said your computer will reboot (explained above).

If it took 2 hours to install XP from the time you started the install until it rebooted, you have a bad drive. Shouldn't take any longer then 30 minutes at most. Did you do the full format or quick format?

Sorry for the confusion. I am a novice so let me be more specific. I installed the hard drive. Booted off the windows cd to a blue screen that asked if i wanted to install or repair windows. I clicked install and the next screen asked me to do quick or full. After clicking full it took 2 hours (approximately) until I saw the meter that said your computer will restart in 10 seconds. It restarted and I saw the windows logo within 10 seconds and then nothing since. I have not done anything the computer is still on and I was waiting for further instructions. Thank you.

Seems you have bad hardware somewhere. If you aren't computer savvy, you may want to take it in to a computer repair place and have them diagnose the issue.

Isn't there any way I can do the diagnostics myself. I am new to this stuff but I can follow specific directions.

I feel it would be a heck of a coincidence that I got another bad hard drive. Does anyone have any ideas that I could try tonight. I can only work on this computer over the weekend, so I am trying to get it up and running tonight. Thank you.

Besides testing the ram with memtest and testing the hard drive with the dos version seatools. After the format has completed and it actually starts installing windows, it should only take about 30 minutes at most to finish. Is that about how long it took after it formatted?

i would try it again and select quick format and install windows again and see if it works on the second try, if not you'll probally have to take it to someone

Okay, so I manually shut down. Restated and this time it booted to a Windows screen and there were bullets on collecting information, dynamic update and preparing installation and it will be complete in 39 minutes. Now another screen just popped up saying regional language options. I have not been thru these screens before. So should I just continue or should I be concerned because it is acting strange.

39 minutes is what the default time shows when you begin to install XP after the format and it reboots. You didn't boot to the cd again did you?

I don't know what I did really. The CD has been in there all along. All I can tell you is it just finished and now it is on the desktop and seems to be running fine. I guess I will take the cd out and try to reboot it and see what happens, unless you tell me to do something else. Also, since this was acting kind of strange before I put a lot of work into loading all my files and applications on this drive should I do some checking first? Please advise. Thank you.

Restarted, mobo screen appeared and windows logo appeared within the first 15 seconds but nothing since.

The monitor screen says no signal.

Sounds like a video card failure or driver issue. What are all the parts you have for your system?

MB: biostar ta87OU3+
CPU: AMD PHENOM II BLACK X4 955
HARD DRIVE: SEAGATE 1TB SERIAL ATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-6G
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 210 ddr3.

By the way, I haven't loaded any drivers and I haven't put in the CD that came with the mobo that says it is a driver and utilities cd or the graphic card that came with a cd that says display driver installation Cd.
