computer in bedroom dangerous?

Hi,
I was just told by someone that if a computer is in a bedroom close to where one sleeps it is dangerous and needs to be switched off when not in use or at night. Is this true? Is there some form of radiation from a pc?

im sure it wont hurt with the radation thing but if its right next to ur bed, then it probly wouldnt feel that good if u fell off the bed onto it:D

Yeah room temperature goes up a bit, but it goes up even more when you have 5 people lanning in there at once. :D

Lol, there has been many strands of this myth. i swear that this happened. This guy called me and asked me if it was true that if a computer over heats the radiation could possibly cause an atom to split and cause a nuclear explosion!

I have 3 computers running, but they are only on when I am awake.

If they were dangeous then I would have a problem as I can only use them in my room. I don't think they are to harmful.

No, Just turn it off!

I think that happened to me once.

The only problem that I found with leaving one or multiple computers running 24/7 in your room is that sometimes the fans can be quite annoying, especially when the computer gets hot or is doing a large amount of processing. But with all things, you will adjust to it over time.

I have heard that you should not keep electronic devices such as tvs or computers in your room as they will/can distract you from getting a good nights rest. Computers can also raise the temperature of the room and ideal sleeping conditions are meant to be in cool and dark places.

That is funny :). Myths like this creep up by those less knowledgeable in computers and what make them tick. I'm sure there are more then one person out there that believes that there are tiny Nuclear reactors powering a PC :).

As for it being dangerous in the bedroom the only logical answer would be that it is no less harmful in the bedroom then it is in the living room, office etc. So no they are not dangerous in the bedroom unless you are looking at porn and your wife wakes up.

I have one in my bedroom and it's on 24/7 (I turn off the monitor at night, though) because I fold with it. I have to feel sorry for people who can't sleep because of a little noise from their computer. Lord knows, it's a lot quieter than trying to sleep on an aircraft carrier.

There are people who buy "white noise" generators to help them sleep-- don't computer fans make white noise?

Doesn't the CPU make microwaves?
No, it will not be harmfull...

The frequency range for Microwaves is from 1Ghz-300GHz, so yes, the processor itself is running in the microwave spectrum, though if there are any emissions, they wouldn't get any farther than the heatsink. We are talking extremely low power there as far as transmission goes.

I think if they were dangerous, we would know by now. There'd be like a Surgeon Generals warning on the CPU or something...:)

speaking of microwaves, the one in your kitchen is probably ten times worse for you to be next to than a computer, and I don't avoid my microwave ever

This is ridiculous. Now I have no proof to back this up, but here's my outlook. People who waste their time worrying about things like the radiation your computer gives off will waste more time worrying than a normal person who may die a year earlier.

Then of course we make new discoveries and suddenly realize taking econazia (SP for sure) every day isn't healthy, or putting hand sanitizer on everytime you go outside will weaken your immune system.

I'd be more worried about the air quality than radiation. It brings back memories every time I go up to Los Angeles and smell the air.

This whole idea is somewhat like what they say about radiation from cell phones and how people are getting worked up over that too.

You make a good point, there are many other worse things in the world to be worried about and that we as humans should be doing something about.

Id never want to go to LA. But your right.. There are bigger things to worry about. Like global warming (which if you have read Michael Crichtons new book, you wont beleive in, as I dont anymore). But yeah.. Air quality, and the thinning of the ozone layer are much much more important things, then tiny tiny itty bitty radiation particals.
