Computer Died After 10 mins

Using everest and it was running fine but the problem now lies that the machine won't even POST show a display or anything although i know it is running because the fans are going if the cpu was gone usually the machine wouldn't turn on. And another thing the cpu wasnt even on load and the heatsink fan was screwed down tight so i do not believe the cpu has overheated.
 
cpu doesnt need to be on load, it can be idle and still hit the max easy....

im not talking rubbish i know ive experienced it!!

have you flashed bios and tried to reboot?

i have my fingers crossed that overheating is not the issue because you could have caused some damage to your cpu even with the thermal shut down

None of this matters, thermal interface material is what makes the thermal bond between the processor and heatsink. Without reapplying thermal interface material, you can have as little as .1% of the thermal contact areas in direct contact with each other, due to microscopic valleys and ridges in the metal of the heatsink and the processors integrated IHS.
 
I was there with Hsv_Man (live up the street from him), what's happening is when he turns the computer on, the fans come on, but nothing else responds.
There's no signal sent to the monitor, but it can detect somethings there. It comes up the Analog/Digital message as if it was trying to figure out what it's connected to. All USB/PS2 devices are non responsive. No keyboard, no light on the mouse, etc.
He cannot enter the Bios or anything since it wont start up. Fans are on but nobody's home.

What my thoughts on what has happened is when he used the air compressor to blast the dust out of his PSU, that something became dislodged inside the PSU, and as a result the system isn't receiving enough power to function properly. Is this a possible explanation?

Hopefully tomorrow or Monday we'll be plugging in my old CPU (Intel Celeron 2.8ghz) and my old PSU (300W) to see if changing either of them fix the problem. At least then we might be able to narrow down the problem... At the moment, we're both just guessing.

How are you cleaning it?

Are you just blowing it out with compressed air or
are you physically removing the heatsink every time?

What we're "going on about" is it sounds to everyone
here like you remove the heatsink everytime you clean.

This would require you to reapply the paste.

I would assume from your good temps that you're not
removing the heatsink everytime, but just blowing it out.?
 
What's the point in asking advice on a forum if you don't want to accept the answers you're given?

If you really think your PSU is at fault, go buy a new one, see if it fixes it... :rolleyes:
 
I'm putting mass bets on the PSU as when i put the air through it the dust that came out of it was enormous. I will be running a new PSU in minutes so i will get back to the forums and let you guys know we will be replacing everything but my first replacement will certainly be the PSU.
 
Ok so its not the PSU but it aint the cpu either i felt the heatsink while the machine was on and it was heating up so all thats left is the motherboard.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't have thought the CPU heating up is a guarantee that it's OK...

But you're right, it could still be the MoBo that's at fault.
 
Yeah the motherboard is an Asrock P4i65G if the motherboard was done i dunno the fans and that are still going along with vid card and hsf no idea what to do i noticed a few prongs that have been knocked over i straightened them but still nothing.

Say i was to remove and reapply thermal paste at this point would anything come of it. Cause thats what i am thinking of doing as the motherboard seems to be fine.

It wouldn't hurt. It takes minutes.

Just make sure you clean both surfaces (cpu and heat sink with 99% Isopropyl)
and don't use a "pea" sized blob. BB sized is more like it.

Ok its time to put this thread to bed i removed the old thermal paste and reapplied the new one and to no avail as i put in my old motherboard a dell one and the processor worked fine seems the motherboard just died after only 24 months :( not even that. So i probally wont get another mobo just build a new top of the line machine as mine is so outdated atm anyway thanks everyone for your help.
