can i reformat without disc?

i built my computer from parts off the internet and bought an OEM windows xp OS. long story short, i lent the disc to a friend and now its lost. is it possible to reformat my computer without the disc?

and since its OEM no i cannot get a replacement through microsoft

Generally speaking, yes, you have to have the disk. For purposes of discussion here, you would have to either buy a new copy or legally obtain a new disk or disk image. In the future, it's always a good idea to create a backup of your OS installation media. I've a backup image of every windows OS since XP on my hard drive.
