Buying through HP or Bestbuy?

I am looking at the zv600 series from HP notebooks.

Here is the laptop on bestbuy.com for $1100 (after rebates)

and through hp.com I can upgrade from 512 mb ram to 1 GB ram and upgrade from Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW drive to LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer and also get a free printer for $1,153.99 (after rebates)

My questions are this:
1) Is it better to go through a local retailer or directly through company to get the better deal?

2) Which extended warranty service plan would be the best to go with, Best Buys or HPS Accidental and extended service plan (Can HP's match up with Best Buys quick and reliable support? I also see that HPs extend warranty only repairs broken parts once where Best Buys seems to have no limit)...

3) Is Pro really that much better than Home Edition, as if I go through HP I can downgrad to Home and save 25 dollars.

4) Are there better laptop companies than HP? If so who and would you highly recommend them over HP and am I able to get around the same laptop with the same features?
 
I would buy it from HP because you would like the upgrades. However is you need this laptop right away get it from best buy. I got my Compaq laptop in 2 weeks even thought they said they would have it to me in 3 weeks and it works good.
 
One must also consider that one of two things can happen; 1. It can get damaged during shipping. 2. (This happened to my friend) They will ship the wrong item. Not saying you should pick it up at the store, but just keep that in mind.
 
Dell laptops are worth the little extra money that they cost... Although HP laptops are fine, the real question is, what are you going to be using the laptop for...?
And to answer one question right now, it's a lot cheaper to buy direct from the manufacturer as retail stores have to pay a lot more for various overhead charges on top of the overhead charges of the manufacturer.
 
get it from hp, to me hp is the best price/performance/mobility ratio laptop company out there, dell's arent that mobile but still vry good

best buy doesnt service laptops tho, my modem on my hp laptop got ****ed up a few years ago, i bought it from best buy, and best buy shipped it to hp to get fixed so best buy doesnt rly have any support at all except the warrenty

pro is a whole lot better than home, get it! more stable, safer

and the ram move from 512 to 1024 is HUGE

dell laptops are the cheapest on the market and probably one of the best quality.

1. depends on which retailers and which company. one way best buy is able to give better deal sometimes is giving you pc2700 ram, a 4200 rpm harddrive, and an onboard video card.

2. My gf's laptop totally died and best buy gave her a totally new laptop. however they did rip her off because her previous laptop had a radeon 7500 and her new one has an intel extreme graphics. however my dell warranty sent me a new laptop because i found one burnt out pixel.

3. Pro is a lot better for networking. if you have home it won't let you stream avi files through the network. i suggest pro. if you go to college you can usually get pro for very cheap because a lot of college networks suggest you run pro. i can get pro at my school for 15$.

dell is one of my favorites. they have a lot of different laptops to fit your need. i personally recommend the 600m and the 6000.
toshiba i have heard pretty good news about. not sure about the price.
alienware is expensive but good parts.
 
I looked at Dell and Toshiba and I cant find any laptops that I can get the smae amount of ram and hardrive that I can get at hp... is that hp really not going to make me happy, I mean is HP relaly not that reliable that I should fork out the more money?

What about the processor and grpahics card in the HP arnt they pretty good quality?
 
you have an incomplete link. please edit that.

the zv6000 has the radeon xpress 200m. not a very good video card. you can get the same harddrive size on toshiba or dell laptops. what is your price range?

my price range is from 800-1200

Im looking for a good pc for college and entertainment (watching dvd playsing music) mainly, but also doe designing purposes (such as photoshop, dreamweaver, etc) and gaming.
 
Order your i6000 drom dell, 40% off coupon goes till tommarow, so hurry, i got my 9300 for the price listed, and its a good preformer, get the 6000 with teh 128mb X300 and u should be happpy.

If you decide to go with a HP laptop then do the following

here what you do because I believe bestbuy custom hp computers for you. You go to the hp website price what you want and print out the price quote. Then go to bestbuy tell them exactly what hp you want. If the price comes out higer show them the quote you got from hp website. If you get lucky and talk to the right person they will not only match the quote but usually give you a few 100 off. I known someone to do this before.
 
X24 i envy your laptop. i paid 1500 for mine and i only have a radeon 9700 [sadface]
however my 2.8ghz with hyperthreading multithreads like beast [insert rawr face]
