Broken Screen?

Well the coloured lines have been there quite a long time... but the giant rectangle in the middle suddenly just appeared... does anyone know how to fix this and how it happened? (Thx for your help, picture attached)

Unfortunately, your screen is broken and it will cost a heck of a lot of money to replace it. :( Sorry dude!

Woah, Woah. Don't jump to conclusions.

Have you tried the monitor on another computer? If it doesn't work with another computer, then the monitor is broken. If it works with another computer, there's something up with your graphics card.

Post back when you've tested it with another computer! ;)
 
plug in a spare monitor from a desktop to back of laptop. if all is well then you need a new LCD. many DIY threads out there on how to change LCDs. takes about a hr max

Yea but the LCD screen itself is going to cost about $300 without parts. Why spend that much?
 
not always. if you look on ebay you can get some cheap ones new. i replaced on on a gate way FX gaming laptop and the screen was 125$ form manufacture. took me all of 35mins

From that picture, that doesn't technically look like a cracked/broke LCD. I would bet its your video, make sure its not overheating and try another monitor. If its fine on another monitor, than it probably is the LCD. But i highly doubt its the LCD, check the video temps. You may have fried your video chipset from overheating. If that is the case, its not worth the repair.
