Have you tried the monitor on another computer? If it doesn't work with another computer, then the monitor is broken. If it works with another computer, there's something up with your graphics card.

plug in a spare monitor from a desktop to back of laptop. if all is well then you need a new LCD. many DIY threads out there on how to change LCDs. takes about a hr max
