Hey Hey.

OK Basically after i start my windows folder to boot up with, i get the normal xp logo and a loading bar, after about 10 secs everything disappears????? Now theres a blank screen, the only command i can issue at this poitn is a hard reboot.

anyone know what to do? if i try to boot up in safe mode i get a

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\atapi

theres about 25 of the same error apart from the file at the end being diffrent each time.

Please help.

Reformatting is not an option

I recommend you boot from the xp cd
go repair
when you get to the recovery console type
fixboot
also may as well do a
chkdsk /p
chkdsk /r

hope this helps

About the Safe Mode issue:
All messages that appear starting with this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
are telling you the files windows boots. It only appears in safe mode. And it's not an error.
You need to be more patient, man.

It can take about 1-2 minutes to load all the files.

About the normal mode issue:
Try waiting a couple of minutes (maybe 2 mins).
How long did you wait before restarting?

I think your disk have a problem

run what gazza99 says

I recommend you boot from the xp cd
go repair

fixboot

chkdsk /p
chkdsk /r

test your memory too with memtest+

I guess this is what each command does:
]fixboot - Fixes the booting
]chkdsk - Checks the hard drive(s) for errors
Here is the syntax of the application:
Code:
CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]

volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
                  mount point, or volume name.
filename FAT/FAT32 only: Specifies the files to check for fragmentatio
.
/F Fixes errors on the disk.
/V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file
                  on the disk.
On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any.
/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information
                  (implies /F).
/L:size NTFS only: Changes the log file size to the specified number
of kilobytes. If size is not specified, displays current
                  size.
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary.
All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid
                  (implies /F).
/I NTFS only: Performs a less vigorous check of index entries.
/C NTFS only: Skips checking of cycles within the folder
                  structure.

The /I or /C switch reduces the amount of time required to run Chkdsk by
skipping certain checks of the volume.

Whoops i misspellt the error on safe boot, its

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\atapi.sys
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\sr.sys
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\CLASSPMP.sys
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\KSECDD.sys
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)Windows\system32\DRIVERS\Volsnap.sys
______________________________________________________________

I also added some more errors, theres still more to come though lol, what does this mean? is it trying to load them? at the bottom of the screen i get a ''Press esc to cancel of some sort of file'' that file must reboot the machine, i try pressing it but it doest work,

Also i tryed the chdsk, it still goes to a black screen.

Thanks For all your help. :)

* Just in case there is an error in my boot.ini file heres the code in that file

[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS2
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS2="Microsft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

*Updated* blank screen after logon

Hey Hey.

OK Basically i booted up the pc using directory services restore mode (Windows domain controller only) and after it said what sp i hade and toehr stuff it then greeted me with another black screen but this time with some text.

Check D:\

volume is clean.

Somthing along those lines, can i usr this to use a restore point? prviding they havent got deleted.

Thanks bye

Chamiliionaire you said you did a chkdsk but did you also do a "fixboot"? cus if it's the boot files which are corrupt then this may possibly fix the problem so if you haven't i recommend you try it :-)
