Here's an e-mail I got that told me thus:

THIS IS TRUE ACCORDING TO WWW.SNOPES.COM
> >
> >
> > URGENT!!! PLEASE CIRCULATE to your friends, family and contacts.
> >
> >
> > In the coming days, DO NOT open any message with an attachment called: Black in the White House, regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus that opens an Olympics torch that burns the whole hard disk C of your computer. This virus comes from a known person who you have in your list.
> >
> > Directions: You should send this message to all of your contacts. It is better to receive this e-mail 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a message called Black in the White House even if sent by a friend, do not open, and shut down your machine immediately. It is the worst virus announced by CNN. This new virus has been discovered recently it has been classified by Microsoft as the virus most destructive ever.
> > This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee. There is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the hard disk, where vital information function is stored.

Pretty bad virus. I think I'll be using my Ubuntu partition for a few weeks :D
So, anybody experienced its effects?

Not yet. So you're saying this alleged virus can do that much damage? I doubt it. Probably some person trying to create a rumour to match Y2K, which won't really work. I don't see anything about it on the BBC. Maybe the e-mail's sender is dodgy. Chain mail. Ugh.
And baring in mind that www.snopes.com is a rumour site... :P
I reckon you'll be OK on Windows, mate

Fake, fake, fake. Same message but a different "virus" name.
My well intentioned friends circulate this crap and all it does is scare the unwise.

Haha-so I got this from the lady I fixed a PS3 for a month ago, and she is paranoid about getting viruses-she would never have sent this if she knew it was a rumour :) I'm going to have some fun with her:D:D:D:D

Thanks, I'll look at it...
Told the lady that I know (not :D) many people who have this virus, and she is better off using the 10 yr old iMac I fixed for her for a while. It's got a 450 MHz CPU, running OS X 10.4 :D. Needless to say, it can be a itsy bit slow :D:D:D:D:D
