Best Video Card For...

Graphic Editing. What is the best video card for graphic editing? What I need it for is photoshop work with many layers, using many filters. Basically it's for someone who works here in the office and she is one of the graphic editors for the magazines. She deals with large amounts of layers, large images in both resolution size and physical size (20mb). Any help would be appreciated.

I hope that I am not totally wrong, but Photoshop for example does not really require a great expensive card at all. I think the images are rendered primarily through using large quantities of RAM (1GB recommended) and equally so, if not more importantly, a powerful processor. That's where I would think most of the calculations are carried out. I think special cards come into play for applications such as Autocad and or 3DS Max.

You don't need a special video card for photos, but just ensure you're not trying to use on board gfx. It tends to slow the whole system down.
 
Yea you're right. I called nVidia to check what type of bandwidth the current card has (as it does not specify 2x, 4x, 8x on neither the card nor the mobo). And after talking to them, they said the video card memory is important (128mb or higher) and the system memory, as well as having a separate HDD for the images.

Even 3D applications(like Poser) don't require a hefty GPU. Most work in graphics software and 3D programs are based upon your CPU. Both my old laptops could run Photoshop and Poser just fine. My older laptop had a graphics card about par with a GeForce2, and my new one, probably worse :P

Lots of system ram is better. 2D is about the same on every card.
