Well I have this psu:

However we just upgraded my bro's psu. This time I went enermax and was quite frankly impressed by there quality.

Enermax is also a good name. But you only went with a 400w model when you upgraded your brother's case? Is that an older Socket A/P2-P3 or a newer P4/AMD64 system there? If it is SLI or Crossfire a little more will be needed.

For a mid range supply that is about equivalent to the Antec TP II 480w. I just wonder if it runs as quiet. A friend recently bought one for a NZXT case instead of ordering it with their 400w unknown.

Well, we haven't had a chance to try it yet (still waiting on a mobo), but the build quality was superior to antec. And plus it had some nice features. one being after the comp was turned off the psu fans ran for two extra mins to cool off the comp.

As for me I am know sticking with enermaxx.

Hope that helps,

-Bob-

Coolermaster and Thermaltake also have some good specs on their supplies as well just for an additional reference. I've yet to see a problem with an Antec psu however. In the builds I have put together they have always worked out. Another note to consider is which make and model will meet your specific needs. :)

I have to agree, Enermax is the way to go.

For a couple of years now I've been pushing an Antec True Power 430w psu without any tuff issues. It's proven itself reliable for this type of board though. On a newer board a TP II 550w will be gone after while for a strictly gaming type of case Enermax gets the better review. I just happen to do a little more then game on the system here. A friend keeps raving about the Antec TP 480w psu in a new NZXT case that has a dual fan setup for intake and exhaust alike. "Man these supplies get hot! I'm glad this thing has extra fans in it!" is what I hear often enough. Gee my first Antec to replace a 250w that crapped was an Antec 300w that is still in use by a student some years later.

this is probably one of the most stable power supplies ive been able to find online
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817194005
its specs are 700watts and its got FOUR 12V RAILS! all running at 18A! best stability you'll find in my opinion.
i mean really... whos going to use all that power? youd need dual core, dual cpu, dual video cards, 4 dimms, 4 hard drives... and have it all in full load in order to short that thing out. lol CRAZY.. even then i think it would make it through. if you can shell out a few extra bucks i highly suggest it.
a better budget one would be this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817709003#DetailSpecs
its got active PFC, SLI support, dual 12V (18+20A) and modular cabling support! you pick and choose what cables you use! lol i'd definitely get that for a more of a budget system. duno if a dual video card box would run on it very stable... but its a good psu.

MOST stable? I would have to disagree.
If it's a waste of money, why even list it as a recommendation?

$70 isn't just a "few extra bucks" to everyone. He said for ~$100.
Also, if you're talking about the 700W one, you posted the wrong PSU.

Why would you say any of these are better than the one I chose for price:performance ratio?

Although this one is slightly smaller and has a generic sounding label the specs look better here then on the Sunbeam 550w model. The main problem is just one thing. They are unfamiliar names as far as psus are concerned. One of the best ways to find a top psu is to ask those that constantly push their hardwares by OCing. After a period of time they get to know which ones actually offer the best performance as well as stability not just by looking at a few vendor details. Ask those people that have to keep building new cases to replace ones that didn't last. For non-OCers the Antec, Enermax, Cooler Master, and some others will be great for average gaming machines without paying the high end money.
