Another re-build thread: C2Q PC rebuild

Big differnce from the birds nest it used to be:P:).
Looks nice and clean and tidy now. Looks like a sturdy case too, that will last a long time. Nice placements on the cutouts and I think they will work great for any other config. the case might ever have.:good:
Haha yeah it was a right mess. :D

They should work if I ever change the board, not sure though as the board I'm using right now is either mATX or ITX, so an ATX board would probably cover up some of the cutouts.

The only thing I would change is spray paint the inside black. :D

Looks awesome though.
Thanks and yeah I was thinking of doing that but I quite like the silver - goes with the hardware inside it quite nicely. ;)

I think this shot shows off the cable management better.

Looks very nice!

That case looks surprisingly good quality too, with a support bracket for the PSU instead of it just hanging there by 4 screws like it does on most cases that have the PSU mounted up the top.

Thanks! :) Yeah that case must've been on the high end back in its day with the removable motherboard tray and the bracket for the PSU. Sometimes though the bracket can be pest when you want to remove the power supply and the lack of cable management annoyed me so I got a metal worker to cut the holes in the board tray for me.

I remember Dad getting this PC back in 2005 or 06 (not with a Core 2 Quad though, it came with an Athlon 64 4400+ IIRC and he later upgraded it to the Q8300) and it all came in a massive box with a 19" monitor which at the time was massive - I remember Mum was not impressed! :D

So today I've applied the finishing touches, that's really just installing Windows 7 to replace Vista. Vista ran fine but I prefer Windows 7.

The first thing I did once I had installed Windows 7 Ult. though was to check the hard drive using SeaTools. It's been making some really weird noises lately, so I thought I'd test it for errors - and it came out fine! So that's money I don't have to spend then. May get a faster hard drive in the future though, this is only a SATA I HDD I believe, so it's old! Buying a new hard drive for this rig though is not as immediate now though.

...and here's Windows 7 Ultimate. Still a bit of updating which needs to be done, but my Windows 7 DVD has SP1 slipstreamed. I just need to get all my software installed on here and then speak to Microsoft about product activation.

Probably not. :( Something like an overclocked Q9xxx/Q9x5x/QX chip would probably be better than a Phenom II 955 though.

I remember when I was younger and the Core 2 Quads came out I was like. I WANT ONE! I didn't know much of anything about computers then. I thought AMD was like some weird brand where you had to use like programming to use it and stuff like that. I remember buying a FX 5200 and thinking it was an amazing graphics card for 95 bucks.

Haha yeah I wanted a Core 2 Quad too, I've got one now though. :)

I remember when I think it was the Q6600 & QX6700 came out, I bought 2 q66's back in 07 to fold with.

Cost me £350 each :P

I've now owned 3 Q6600's & 1 Q6700!
