android phones - 8 or 16 GB Storage

If anyone's got an android phone how much space would you say you would need, ive heard the OS takes about 3gb so your left with 5 on the 8GB and 13 on the 16GB

what are your thoughts?
 
I've got the 16GB Nexus 5. I'm only using 1.7GB currently and have 11GB free. I don't need much space myself so what I have now is more than plenty.
 
It depends on what you want to do with your phone. I have a 16G phone with a 32G SD card for a total of 48G. This allows me to store music, pictures and movies on my phone. If you don't wish to store anything like that then you could get away with less storage. I also have GPS navigation software that stores it's map data on the phone so I can use it regardless of whether I have a data connection or not (Google map app needs a data connection to update it's map data as you drive).

I think it's better to have too much storage than not enough.

If you want to have music on your phone, I would definitely go the 16gb, especially if it does not cost too much more. It is better than paying for the phone and then finding you don't have enough storage.
For the 32gb nexus 5, it says 26.76Gb available, which must mean the android kit kat OS takes up around 5.24gb
 
I would honestly just get a 16GB or a 32GB if they're not much more expensive than 8GB.

I don't have an Android phone but my brother does (it's a Galaxy Ace). 16GB I think - plenty big enough for all of his music and he has hundreds of songs on it.
 
I wouldn`t ever buy an android device without an sd card slot, in which case you don`t need to worry about internal storage just stick a 32gb msd card in and that will be enough for loads of apps and files, I have near 100 apps in my phone and a lot of photos and still loads of space left.

There are lots of problems with that idea.

For one, very few phones have MicroSD slots anymore. If you find one that does, MicroSD cards can really only be used for media that you add to the device, apps and games can't be installed to them (not counting Samsung's own mod to allow this), and having to manage two storage locations is just clunky compared to one larger storage location.
