AMD FX-8320 monitoring software

Hey guys

I'm building a PC with the FX-8320, but with HWMonitor I can only see one CPU temp, and it's obviously wrong. It says it idles at 13C/55F (~21C/70F room temp), but BIOS says 28-30C/82F.
I've seen this before with my Phenom II X2 555 BE, and I just wanted to know what monitoring software that's better with AMD.

I will try them when I came home. I've used them all before, I just hoped there was some specific reason AMD reported differently and some software designed for that :)

This is a well known thing about the Vishera and maybe even Bulldozer chips. At idle the temps will frequently read below the ambient temperature, which flat isn't possible without some sort of refridgeration. All the AMD chips I've used from the Vishera line (5+) have had the same behavior. Idle temps jumps all over the place while still saying relatively low and at load the temperatures are actually more accurate. I think it's something to do with how AMD treats the max temp of the CPU and how it throttles it if needed. I'm not the expert on the subject, but I can tell you that your readings are accurate when it's at load so you have nothing to worry about. I've tried numerous different temperature monitoring software and they all report the same.

Out of curiosity, what board do you have it with?

Very common issue with AMD FX chips on some boards. I've never owned an FX system myself so I can't say if it will work or not, but give CoreTemp a go and see what results you get.

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P. The board that did it with my Phenom II X2 was ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe.

Fractal Design Define R2 with FX-8320 (CM 212 Evo) and R9 290. On load FX reaches 42C/107F and R9 reaches 49C/120F after 24 hours and 11 minutes of CPU+GPU+90%RAM stress :)

Damn that's cold. Especially the GPU.

My 8320 gets in to the low 50's at full load with my 212 and a little bit of an overclock. My 7970 will be pushing 70 at times.

I'm pretty pleased with the setup so far, yeah. It keeps those temps, but it's also very quiet - especially considering it's full of "lava" :D
