Advice on my next purchase

I want to buy a tablet PC because its very portable and I like the feature of taking notes on it and the fact that its windows (more useful in college than an android or ipad).

On the processor: I want something that matches my current one kinda.
I have a Intel i5-2450M.
Most tablet PCs have an i5-3317U, but this processor is only a better power usage, but not as performing as i5-2450M.

So, should I go for the i7-3517U? I think it should match the i5-2450M, with better power usage, of course.

As far as I know, I haven't seen any PC tablet with a GPU better than Intel HD 4000. Bummer, but I need a machine efficient for college. I don't think I will game much anyways.

So for this post, can anyone agree that the i7-3517U matches i5-2450M in performance?
And then, can anyone recommend me a particular tablet PC?

I'd also consider convertibles, since I'd get a keyboard anyways.

The i7 is more powerful then a i5, but the i5 will give you better battery life and honestly unless you are gaming there are very few things I could think of you could do that you would need a i7 over a i5 with the exception of gaming but a intel gpu is not for serious gaming. Plus if you get a computer withing a gaming gpu there goes your portability.

As mentioned, I won't really be gaming much anymore. But the reason I was thinking for an i7 is because when I write some programs (nothing massive, course work), sometimes I see the i5-2450M struggle a little. If I won't be doing serious gaming, should I go for the i5-3317U?

I don't see tablet using i7...
There are convertible like asus taichi, sony duo 11 or lenovo yoga. But I like you would better off to those lighter tablet with i5 like surface pro or samsung vtiv

I don't understand productivity work on a tablet but okay, Yeah the latest i5 should present enough power for you.

I probably should have mentioned that I want it to be capable of note taking in handwriting.
So I'd prefer a convertable or tablet w/ attachable keyboard.
