Actavation of Windows XP

ok i just bought this XP home cd so i could have an operating system on my new computer that i built

but i have to enter the key...

for some odd reason it says its already exceeded the number of times it can be used

it tells me i should call microsoft which i may do

i was just wondering i heard that this is common since march 2005... is that true?

and how do i activate... just call? or buy WinXP from microsoft directly?
 
Just call Microsoft and they will generate a new number for you as long as you have an offical microsoft sticker somewhere on the computer it looks like this

They will want the serial number and the COA label number

This is starting to sound fishy....



If I’m jumping to conclusions, I apologize... but I think its time you buy a licensed copy of XP home.
 
Maybe be fishy... but why do you need to activate? Dont worry about it. I never register ms stuff..
 
Ahmmm...

YOU SHOULD NO POST ANYTHING LIKE THIS HERE BRO... :rolleyes: . Now as to the activation, you should be able to call Microsoft and by using the CD code printed on the CD itself, Microsoft will be able to generate an activation code for you. If your CD is not fancy and does not have that info on it, then you have an illegal copy.

whos they?

this happend to me when i bought my xp pro. so what i did was call the number (phone activation in UK) and follow the instruction which eventually they generate a seriel number which you will have to enter thats it. as simple as that.
 
i just ordered xp home again, this time from i guess i more reliable source, newegg

i guess the place where i got my cd last time was FAKE, but w/e

what did you need for that?
 
Sometimes they wont even ask for anything. Like when my dads network went down and he asked me to re-install Win XP Pro on all the computers every time I rang up Microsoft the just gave me a serial number and that was it.

Again, where did you "purchase" this? Maybe I missed it but you seem to be avoiding the question. I assume you downloaded/got an illegal copy from someone?

i actually forgot where... im looking for the reciept or email

i got it through www.pricewatch.com

but i did purchase this legally
