Hi,
When you right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select properties; in the system properties, it is given as follows:

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

<name of user>

Intel (R)
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
3.00 GHz, 896 MB of Ram
Physical Address Extension

Now, what is this 896 MB of RAM; I had asked for 1 GB RAM. And what is Physical Address Extension?

Thanx.

You have 1 GB of RAM, but some system functions always use up a little. Also, if you have on-board video, that will subtract from it, too.

That means you have 128mb of system memory dedicated to the onboard video.

No, it's not the pagefile. It's the onboard video taking up 128mb.

PAE is a method for x86 processors to address more than 4GB of RAM on a 32bit systems. Windows XP limits the address space to 4GB for driver compatability reasons but PAE is usually enabled for execute disable bit.
