Computer troubleshooting needed! Hard drive runs all the time.

Hello!

I have an interesting thing going on and I am not sure what it is. The hard drive runs all the time and after a while the computer gets really slow. Is it a hard drive buffer issue, hard drive in general or memory issues?

1. Disable any unnecessary programs from running at bootup
2. Download Ccleaner and do a custom clean
3. Download Malwarebytes and scan your pc for malware, have it quarantine anything it finds

How old is this computer?

click on the processes tab, click on the disk column so that it sorts it by highest usage first, take a screenshot and post it so we can see whats using the disk.

I will look at all this and be back in a couple of days. Going to be away from the computer for a couple of days. Thanks for the info.

Computer is about 4-5 years old. It also will not upgrade to Win11. Needs something of i am not sure of yet.

How do I disable programs at startup?

Thanks,
Kevin

I'd figure out what's sending that traffic out, that's not like 'usual' unless you're syncing in the background at a low rate.

I'm sure a mechanical drive for an OS is an immensely slow experience in 2025
