What exactly is a "LAN party"?

What is a LAN party? I here about them all the time, but I have no idea what in the world they are! Someone help please!!!
 
It's when a bunch of people gather in a single location, and play games together. These can be on small scales, like 5-10 people in a small building, or a large event with hundreds to thousands of people.

That is just not true. A more accurate statement would be "It is a party where your less likely to run into women". Many chicks play games and I have seen many LAN party picks with women. There are just far less then men.

Why not? A LAN party is to get together and play video games... It's a much different kind of party then a "regular" party. Do you never just get together with male friends and play video games? I cannot think of a much better way to do so then to attend a LAN party.

I would call that not true either. Maybe if you go to one you organise with friends, but if you go to the ones in Europe, then there are alot of girls there! and surprisngly, very hot.

Well It was more accurate ;). Seriously though many LAN events have a much higher rate of male attendees. If you asked me how many women I know that play video games I'd tell you about 3. I know many more males then females. Also I'm guessing your talking about large scale events that are organized by organizations? You give me this impression with the comment "Maybe if you go to one you organize with friends, but if you go to the ones in Europe". As for my statement being True or False... I'd have to say true for small scale events (your typical weekend get together Lan Event). It is kind of like a poker party, usually there are not many women as they just don't have the interest. It is the same reason you wont see many males at "stamping" party's. It's a woman thing.

So my point is, Women do attend these things as there are women gamers. There are just so few in compared to men gamers. Unfortunately for us male gamers whom love women, It is sadly true.

Also notice my wording ;).. "A more accurate statement would be ". Implies it's more accurate then, but not necessarily 100% fact.
