virtual machine for windows 7

Hello all,

I am wanting to run virtual machines in windows 7, I am wanting to have XP, ubuntu, other win7 vm's and vista (yuk). I have licences for all OS's and will wanting the best VM out there to support my needs.

The VM need's to support Ethernet, USB and serial port I/O's also a resource monitor / slider would be nice too however not required.

Does anyone here have any recommendations on what to get.

If I need to pay for it so be it...

Hi Nevakonaza,

Yes I have used virtual box in the past (years ago), I was looking at that and it looks like it will do what I want it too. If no one else can find anything better I'll give this a go.

Really? In the documents for virtual box it says it is supported...

"Linux hosts (32-bit and 64-bit[3]). Among others, this includes:

Ubuntu 6.06 ("Dapper Drake"), 6.10 ("Edgy Eft"), 7.04 ("Feisty Fawn"), 7.10 ("Gutsy Gibbon"), 8.04 ("Hardy Heron"), 8.10 ("Intrepid Ibex"), 9.04 ("Jaunty Jackalope"), 9.10 ("Karmic Koala"), 10.04 ("Lucid Lynx"), 10.10 ("Maverick Meerkat), 11.04 ("Natty Narwhal")."

I think hes talking about "Windows's Virtual Machine" and not "Virtualbox".

Virtualbox does run Linux i use it occasionaly when i feel like trying out a new distro.
If Microsoft don't let Linux run on "Windows's Virtual Machine" then that is really petty of them.:cool:

Virtualbox is much better anyway. :)
 
MS VirtualPC only supports XP, Vista and Win 7 as guest OSes. That doesn't mean you can't install any other OSes, it means you are on your own and MS won't offer any help to get other OSes running in a VM. VirtualBox and VMWare Player both actively support many different OSes and have instructions for most OSes regarding how to configure the VM to run them.
 
Virtualbox is a great choice. and yes, you can run ubuntu on it. I've tried pretty much any distro on there with good results. I have windows 8 setup on it, various *nixes, bsd's, etc.
ie, all the ones i have setup right now+others you can't see:
