Available immediately, Valve has launched an extensive update to Counter-Strike: Source, now in beta.

The update includes a host of new features and functionality developed in collaboration with Hidden Path Studios. These include 144 new achievements, a new domination and revenge system, player stats, and more.

This beta will run for a limited time, and once complete, the update will be deployed to all Counter-Strike: Source owners for free via Steam.

Server admins may download the dedicated server files via the HLDSUpdateTool using "-game cssbeta" in the command line.

Half of me thinks thats cool theyre breathing life into an old game and the other half is thinking its about time.

To be honest I quit playing about a year ago but this looks like it could be good.

Interesting.. What ever happened to that CS:Online or something? The teaser vid was an HD version of Source in Dust or something..

Hmm, it doesn't improve/change graphics =/
The people I've talked to say movement is "more fluid."
Other than that, it sounds like they just made the scoreboard and "death cam" like TF2. So nothing huge. Still interesting they updated it.

an excuse for a CS:S free weekend/money off maybe :P

I hope this sorts my issue of not being able to connect to any servers. Will see when the update is rolled out

Im sure someone will upload a vid of the new features for us all to see :)

honestly i don't like the new Steam 'look'. who would have thunk Library = Games, took me a whiile to find them. Fthat.

i think CS is a classic, and as such, they should leave it alon.e

if it turns out like TF2, i probably will stop playing. didn't put more then about 10 hrs total on TF2, and i don't really care about achievements, i just want to chillTFO after a long day, achievements make it look like work . pfft.

This *may* be to do with VALVe bringing out CS:S for OSX, being that many of their main release games are built on the Orange Box Source engine (a newer, modified version of the CS:S one) this would make sense with the change sthey've made. Plus they've been promising it for ages!

This is kinda straying off topic but whatever. I personally like the new link. Its more modern and flashy and to be honest, I was getting sick of the old one which had been around for years. My only problem with the new one is it still seems there is a lot of wasted space. Like the 3/4 inch bar at the bottom that says add a game could be removed with no real performance or function loss whatsoever.

It is a little weird that library=games but they also put videos and stuff in there. Even if you had to search for it once, I can't image it took you more than 30 seconds to find your games. What a HUGE waste of time :P (Putting it in perspective, you spent more time reading this post)

believe you me, when you're trying to hide your pr0n under a game of CS:S, 30 seconds IS a long time :P

and whats with the daily updates? i seriously get a "steam finished updating, please restart steam, steam is unhappy, steam requires sacrifice" or other such nonsense EVERY day, i kid you not

the old steam was pretty simple to navigate, at least they should give you the option, classic vs flashy, i have a feeling it's turning into another social networking site, ugh! how does SteamBook sound?

who cares what steam looks like, i just want to play my game... Steam should focus more on security. damned cheaters with their auto aims, ping masking and mic spamming always ruin it for everybody. a-holes

^^there i went back on topic^^ kindof :D

You don't have to use Steam, just create shortcuts to the games on your desktop or in a folder and launch them directly. Problem solved.
