MOBO/CPU compatible?

i'm new to building computers; i'll throw that out there first...
i'm building a system based from an MSI 865PE neo3-f mobo my dad had just laying around. i'm trying to choose a processor for it and i'm having trouble figuring out what all's compatible with it. the processor i want is the cedar mill p4 641 but i have reason to believe this combination won't work.
MSI's website shows the mobo is only compatible with the p4 5xx cpu's, while intel doesn't say anything like that about the 865pe chipset.
help?

Looks like your mobo is LGA 775. I would suggest a dual-core. You can find them for the same price as the P4 and they are much faster.

His motherboard will not support a dual core processor. An 865 chipset will only run celeron and lower P4 processors, 5xx series and some 6xx series. It will not run anything higher. You need at least a 945 chipset and even that has limitations if you want to run a dual core, use a 965 chipset at the minimum for dual core support.

To original poster, Newegg doesn't even have one processor compatible with that board. You will have to find one on ebay or from somewhere else.
 
thanks johnb35, you confirmed what i thought. if intel's site wasn't such a pain to navigate i wouldn't have had to ask.
everyone else: thanks for the advice, but i'm building a P.O.S. system on the 865pe board that i got FOR FREE so your suggestions about saving money by buying a new mobo don't really make sense, but.... thanks anyways. when i'm done with this crap build i'll be starting on a decent/good one and then i'll need some teachings on what's new/affordable.
