Lenova laptop worth broken screen no longer reading external monitor

So my laptop screen busted a few months ago.
I've been using an hdmi cord to a monitor to still use it.
The other day I was having issues with it running 100% disk, so I googled fixes. Did all of them including using command prompt to have it start chkdsk on next reboot.
So I rebooted, could see it started up the laptop is no longer reading the external monitor. I've let it run for about 6 hours now, just incase chkdsk is still running. But I can not see a thing, so have no idea what is going on.
Any suggestions To get it back in to windows so it reads the monitor again?

Thank

The external monitor won't work without the laptop being inside windows. I would just suggest replacing the screen, fairly cheap and somewhat easy to replace depending on model. How old is this laptop?

It's about 6 years old.
The only thing I know about the model with out getting in to windows is that it's an intel core i5.
A thinkpad.
How would I source a replacement screen for it?

Thanks for the Reply and help!

The easiest way to do it is take the screen out, input the model number of the screen into ebay, amazon to see where you can get it the cheapest/fastest. I usually order mine from laptopscreens.com. I've replaced a few of my clients screens over the years.
