im upgrading a computer on the cheap, real cheap and just found that the mobo in the computer im using isnt as bad as oringally though

it currently has an amd duron 800mhz but apparantly can support up to 2.8 ghz so im looking for one of the better cpus in this list

Dont reall know why it would not. The Thorton was nothing but a Barton core with half of the L2 disabled, realy making it the same as a Thunderbird.

i know about the decrease in l2 cache but i thought the barton and thornton were on the same socket so why wouldnt one motherboard support both?

Yeah, they are the same socket, really the same core, probably the ones with defective L2 cache got half disabled and called it a Thornton core. Dont see any reason it would not run any XP Athlon as long as it doesnt have a 200/400FSB.
