WTB motherboard

I am potentially looking to buy an AM3 motherboard. Mine died and, although still in warranty, wasn't covered for replacement as it is discontinued.

Must be AM3
Preferably with 8xx chipset
2 PCIe x16 lanes @ x8/x8 with 1 PCIe x1, thought the PCIe x1 isn't totally necessary
ATX preferred
Must have an IDE slot
Must be able to support at least 5 SATA devices
Must be able to support front panel audio
Must have 8 pin CPU connector
Either Gigabyte, Asus, ASRock or MSI please, no Biostar, EliteGroup or other cheap crap

UK seller would be preferred because of shipping costs, but am open to offers from elsewhere :)

If they don't carry the product anymore then they need to send you an upgraded model at no charge, I know Asus does this but not sure what brand you had.

It was Asus, the one that was in my sig (M4A79XTD EVO). They sent out a refund instead, which by UK legislation, is not equivalent to the price of a brand new board, Because I had a 3 year warranty (standard for Asus boards) and had the board for 12 months, I got ~2 thirds what I paid for it. If it was 2 year warranty and I had used 1 year, it would have been 50% of what I paid for it

If you need 8X/8X

Asrock 890GX Extreme 3/4
Asus M4A89GTD Pro or Pro/USB

Cheaper
Asrock 870 Extreme 3
Asrock 880G Extreme 3

good choice, 880g extreme3 rocks.

They are also cheaper than most other new boards of similar specs. I think the only one which gets anywhere near, price wise, is the 880G Asus board (M4A88G I think?) but don't want to go Asus again for a new board, this last experience with their warranty service I want to be just that, my last. It has left a very sour taste in my mouth. I know ASRock and Asus are the same, however ASRock is dealt with by a different warranty service if I am not mistaken

I don't care for Asus at all, I have no idea how they are the largest motherboard manufacturer. I support gigabyte and asrock all the way.

I still can't believe they didn't upgrade you. I had a p5gd1 that went bad on me and they didn't have any to send me so they sent one that was comparable. didn't even have to reinstall windows as it had the same chipset.

They aren't, Foxconn are ;)

But I know what you mean, of the major ones for system builders, I can't understand it either. Their products are excellent, but their support service just isn't...

Well I'm going to Scan this weekend. I will contact Asus before then to ask what would usually be done in that situation and whether it is ever their policy to refund.

I've only ever had 1 issue with a discontinued product, that was my old OCZ memory. They replaced it still, but I got a set with lower timings instead, was quite pleased :P
