.wps file conversion ?

Is there anyway of converting MS .wps word files (MS Works 2007) into usable files now or are they long gone ?

The only thing on my new laptop is 2010 MS Word Starter and it doesn't work with the old wps extensions.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
