I wonder if the glass would really shatter like this. I don't want to find out with the one I have, but it would be interesting to see.

I don't think so, I reckon that was exaggerated for the ad, it would probably crack, not shatter/explode into fragments like that. What I'd really like to see is the iPhone 4 screen being attempted to be smashed. No matter what I do in the apple shop, there never seems to be a scratch on it.

There should have been a thing at the end saying "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" :D

I'm never going to england if the general population go into Apple stores and try to scratch iPhone screens, it must be really rough there! :o /sarcasm

haha yeah, when I busted the glass on my iphone it just cracked, didn't shatter everywhere.

i would assume they don't use actually glass but probably some sort of acrylic material. but correct me if i am wrong there. either way though i don't think it would ever shatter like that. they probably took safety precautions to avoid the glass harming someone.

I dont think it would shatter like that,Actually i bet it would be very hard to break the glass on an Ipad,It would probably just crack.

Stupid advert imo

Wales, actually.
But whatever ;)

Its still in England! :D,Not to be offensive or anything but why do welsh people always refer wales as been like another country and not part of england!

how many people would actually notice that though? most would see it and not think about the reality of it.

Well, I don't really care where people think I come from:D
But Wales aint part of England, its part of Britain, and it just sits next to england looking very small and insignifcant:rolleyes:

The screen on an iPhone is similar to car windows, they don't shatter, but will crack. They're both made of other materials in combination with glass. If an iPad screen was made of nothing but glass, if you pressed on it too hard, or dropped it more than 10cm, it would smash similar to the on in that video. I believe its a combination of glass/plastics, but I'm not certain what exact materials are used.

A really bad case of a screen cracking:

Funny thing is, most iPhones continue to work perfectly fine with broken screens.

woah, somebody really wanted to start that application  :P

The glass will not shatter as seen in the video. The glass is underneath the digitizer layer, which is why they still work after being dropped.
