Wireless to LAN Networking Problems

I cant seem to share files to this new laptop i have which is using the 802g.

My set up is a cable modem connected to a linksys cable/dsl 4 port router which is then spread to a 8 port linksys switch and an access point 802.11g which connects the laptop and shares the broadband.

Thing is, all cable connected computers (4 in all) can see each other's files and share them.

The wi fi laptop can't even see their files what more share its own. Please advise thanks

do you have file and print sharing enabled on the laptop? make sure that it is also chosen if you have any firewalls running. try running the network setup wizard

ive already done all of that to no avail! the firewall thats on the laptop is norton so i cant seem to figure if its blockin the network ...

I have norton, and it doesn't block the network...unless you have it set to automatically block it without asking you first

can you ping the other machines in your network?
do they all belong to the same workgroup name?
what type of files are you trying to share?

Things to check

Hero,

You said you've enabled file sharing on the laptop, and presumably the desktops. Without it enabled you won't be able to see a machine - but you've got that one covered.

Check to make sure that your laptop is a member of the same workgroup as the four desktops. You may have the desktops all on WORKGROUP but the laptop on e.g. MSHOME or LAPTOP (and stick to 8 character names to start with so that you can be sure that all your machines will be able to recognise them, whatever OS's your running)

Can you ping one of the desktops from the laptop? Can you ping the laptop from a desktop?
