Wireless Routers

Hi, i need to set up a wireless internet connection for 2-10 computers, including a ethernet output for the Playstation 2 Online Gaming. I need 2 USB keys, 1 ethernet cable around 10-20 metres (weather proof?) and a wireless modem router. (replacing old bt router). The router needs to have strong signal and 108mps. Please suggest the best products available as my budget is £400. Thankyou very much.

Your not going to find a modem/router that fits those needs, so I suggest you keep your current modem, and hook it up to the router that way.

There is no standard for 108Mb/s, so if you want those speeds you will need to buy the same brand for all your wireless parts, otherwise it may not work.

To start off the a little background info, where are you planning on placing the wireless router, and apprx how far away will the wireless clients be?

well....

You can look into buying a couple of WRT54GLs (at like $50 USD per router) and then load a third party firmware called DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com).

Once that firmware is loaded you can then boost your singal strength. By default almost every wireless router out there only pumps out a measily 28mW signal. However, once this firmware is loaded you have the range of 0mW to 251mW. It is suggested that you don't really go over 75ish, because of overheating issues. Now, you will be running at three times the strength of a normal wireless signal.

Set up a few of them in your location and then use a wireless bridge to connect them (thus not having to go outside, circumventing the weatherproof part) together under one network. Each bridged router will act as a repeater for your wifi and offer a 4 port switch at its location.

The onlydown side this does not meet your 108mbps speed requirement. You may want to wait until after new year 07 for the 802.11N to come out

basically, it is needed for a business (not heavy use at all though) but there will be a laptop through 2-3 walls 20 metres away, and 1 computer 10 metres away through one roof, and another pc through 2 walls 20 metres away, plus any additional laptops in use for our customers (only 1 person with laptop at any 1 time normally), but hoping to boost business for wireless internet users. At any one time, a maximum of 4 people will be using it.

If you want 108Mb/s, you will need to buy a wireless adapter for each laptop that comes on your network, otherwise it will drop the speed down to 54Mb/s.

I will so some searching later on and post back some useful products.

My solution would work with out running any wires, just boost the signal and have two routers with one set in wireless bridge mode
