Wireless problems

Hi

Just been talking to a friend and he's been telling me about wireless networks and internet connections. I've always seen it as, modem, wireless router, computer or laptop. But now he's telling me about all these new setups. I've never had ADSL but apparently you need something different for that . And he's also been telling me that you can use your computer to send out the wireless signal. Like i say i don't know what he's on about and i don't no much about wireless networks. Just wandered if anyone would be willing to give me some info about the whole thing
