wireless printing

I will be moving into an apartment that has wireless internet included. Both myself and my g-friend use laptops and I would like to set up my printer to be wireless.

My questions are...

Is it necessary to have both a wireless router and internet connection to set up wireless printing? Or is it possible to have a wireless router setup without an internet connection and run a printer though that? Do you even need a router to set this up or does the wireless printer router perform this function?

Thanks from a computer novice.

Hmm, not really sure. Alll our printers at home are wireless. One printer has it's own antenna built-in so it doesn't need to be hooked up to the internet through a PC. The other one is connected through my mom's computer so her machine is a print server of sorts.

I'd think you don't need internet for wireless printing. You'd just need an active network where all the computers can access and recognize the printers.

Oh yah that would be cheaper than a wireless setup I think. Not sure of the range though, it might have to be closer to your laptop.

Thank you everyone. I thought I could find a simple answer to this question just by doing a internet search, but apparently I was wrong. This site is great.

what kind of printer do you currently have? my printer(officejet 7310) plugs into the router. it also is able to connect wirelessly
