Wireless Piggybacking

So...my neighborhood is ripe with unsecured linksys (we're talking dozens of good signals)...is it really theft to connect to these routers?

Also, can the average computer user see if someone is using their connection?

Thanks

Just secure your wireless and you will be fine my grandma's password is really long but i can't tell anyone :D also don't steal, that would be illegal =]

its illegal to take something that isn't yours without your permisson so yes this would be illegal

Im not sure about the legality of it,especialy over here in the uk anyway.

But the way i see it,If the person is stupid enough not to secure their router down then thats their fault.

Theres about 2 or 3 great signals i can pick up from my sisters pc using a wireless dongle,i dont them though as i have my own obviusly. :)

Well by law THEY have to encrypt it.....Comcast techs would ALWAYS laugh at how many people didn't do it and they would piggy the signal to play online games in between jobs.

Worst part is if someone downloads a ton of illegal content that guy is responsible not the one that actually downloaded it. This is why I hate wireless and prefer not to use it unless I have too.

your right. beside slowing down it could be some other illegal activities that might attract attention. it might be child porno........if you own it, it will lead a trail back to you.

Yup thats the bad thing,However wouldnt this be able to prove it was not you downloading it? If something like that would happen to some innecent person?

You can look at your router's activity and see who's been connecting to your network.
