Wireless Network Help!

OK, I've just bought a new Sumsung X05 with wireless network card.

First couple of times I've used it, the Wireless has been no problem, connected up to various free access networks at my place of work and also in bars and cafe's.

However, I now find that although the computer will find and connect to wireless networks, it says Connected, Good Signal strength and around 54Mbps (depending on location), I cannot get any webpages to load (Cannot Find Server screen appears) and similarly if I boot up Outlook Express, it also says it cannot access the network.

I have only done the following two things since the wireless network worked and now has problems.

The first was to download and install Microsoft Office Service Pack 4, the second was to change the Logon Account on my laptop. Originally, the main Administrator account was called 'Graham' somebody (presumably the bloke who installed Windows on the notebook at the computer shop_ however, as my hame isn't 'Graham', I wanted to change this. At first I just changed the name of the account, but then foudn Outlook wouldn't download attachments, because it wanted to use 'Graham's' temp folder, since renamed. I therefore deleted the 'Graham' Administrator account and set one up in my name instead.

Every since, I have had the problem of being able to connect to Wireless Networks, but not being able to access anything through them.

Any suggestions or help folks?

Mabey try rebooting your comp then hitting f8 until a few options come up and pick last good configuration, i think its called.

Thank for the input, but as everything is working (except it wont connect to servers) the last known good configuration is the one its on now!

I suppose it doesn't know any different, all the applications are working ok, just wont do anything on t'internet!
 
try right clicking on the 2 monitors in the taskbar and select your available networks by checking the box that says to allow me to connect to this network/connection....hope that works.
 
Possibly try re-installing the drivers for your wireless card. This may give you a fresh start in terms of trying to diagnose the problem.
 
do you not have to specify the SSID (basically a the name of the network) of the network, have you tried using netstumbler? ( www.netstumbler.com ) this displays details about the networks in range which you may need to connect.

downloade netstumbler, its free :) load it up when you think a network is in range and get the required details.

Once you've found a network, exit Network Stumbler. Then, to connect to the network, double-click on the small network icon in the System Tray (officially known as the XP Notification Area—the area of the Taskbar where XP corrals little icons). The Wireless Network Connection Status screen appears, From this screen, choose Properties > Wireless Networks.

If this screen doesn't show you the network uncovered by Network Stumbler, click Refresh. If the network still doesn't show up, that's because the signal is too weak for you to connect to it. To connect to a network shown on this screen, click Configure and fill out the information required in the screen. You'll then get into the network.

when you go into safe mode choose the date not the last good configuration, then you can go way back to the days it worked.
