Hi,
i am going to move my pc to a seperate room from the modem it is a standard broadband modem connecting to the pc via a ethernet cable.could somebody please tell me what i would need to make my cpu wireless.so far i think i need a wireless router, and a wireless network adapter.my cpu is a acer and the main program is vista.any information would be fantastic

Well u have answered the question urself.
U need to get a wireless router for the modem and a WLAN card installed in ur CPU. Install the driver for the wlan card and configure the router. Then u will have internet in ur PC or any wifi compatible device within the range.

You are correct. A wireless router and wireless card is all you need. There are various speeds you can choose from, but about all you see anymore are 802.11g and 802.11n. Both work with one another (N router with G card and vise-versa) but you won't get N performance with compatible equipment (same brand and N-compatible). There are also a few sub-standards. I know Buffalo has something that works at 125Mb/s, but again, you need both the router and network card made for this standard.

thankyou for the info.is there a pcmcia slot on a pc(not a laptop) and if so where is it located?i have just been looking for info and learned that if you connect your modem to a router via a ethernet cable, then put a pcmcia card into your computer-that this is the easiest way-is this true? if not could i put a wireless usb network adaptor in the usb and have the same results?thankyou in advance

In a PC the best way to install a wireless card is to use an internal add-on card, usually PCI, although they also make PCI-Express cards. If you can't install one, then you can always buy a USB one.

You would connect your modem to the wireless router, create a wireless network, and then join your PC to it.

You don't need any special type of router. As long as you are keeping your existing modem, any 802.11g or 802.11n wireless router will work.

i am going to buy the netgear wgt 624 wireless cable router and a usb netgear wireless adapter.i have only one pc which has a standard connection to a cable(telewest modem).i want to move my pc to a seperate room from my modem-but i have noticed on the setups that i have seen that i would have to leave my main pc in the same place because the router would have to connect to the pc via an ethernet cable and the router would then connect to the modem via a ethernet cable.is this correct as this is sending me crazy.............please help me!!!!!!!!

Ya i think that using a router is the best way to get a wireless internet connection and if are having a mobile with wifi in it then you can also use internet in it ..
