Wireless encryption

I am sure this is covered somewhere on her but I cannot find the answer yet.

Heres my problem:

DSL Modem
Wireless router

3 Computers total on network.

Computer:
(1) Server, wired in.

(2) Laptop, wireless.

(3) Desktop, wireless.

Now heres my issue. They are all set-up and working just fine> and going on the net just fine as well. However the other day I was on the wireless computers that show them to be encrypted with (WPA). But at the bottom of the task bar there was a sign that said "not secured".

Now the question is can somebody leech off of my wireless cards on my 2 wireless computers?

I have encrypted my wireless router on my wired PC months ago.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!:D

log into your router and make sure under wireless security that its enabled i have mine set to wep 128 bit

Make sure you are connecting to your network and not someone else's. If your WPA passkey on your client machines is incorrect and windows is set to automatically conenct to the next available wifi network, then it will do so.

A word of warning, WEP is useless, it can be cracked in 10 seconds, that's why WPA was developed. Regarding your encryption problem as long as you needed to log in to use you computer it should be fine, a good way to test is to get a friends wireless laptop or something and try to log in without knowing the password, if he/she can't they you are protected.

Ellite: Thanks for the heads up!

spitviper: I am positive I am not on someone elses connection.

Thanks!

it takes longer to crack wep (depending on your passkey) than 10 seconds but again it is broken. At the same time somebody would have to be in range of your wifi network and be willing to crack your encryption. I had a wep cracker tool and it took me about 35 minutes to crack 128bit WEP with a 25 character key. So, somebody would really want to get into your network. Also, once wep is cracked then they have to deal with the local security of your machine so on and so forth.

Setting up WPA takes about the same time though, so it is worth it to set it up but in reality I doubt anyone would hack into your WEP secured network unless they really really wanted to, or they were just a huge jerk.
