Hello this is my first time here. Well I just got a wireless Linksys router and a wireless Linksys game adapter. Well how can I encrypte my router so that no one will steal my internet. Also I don't want my game adapter to get block with this encryption. I am not that good with networking or even computers. But with this site I plan to get better. Thanks in advance.

you need to access your router. for linksys enter 192.168.1.1 into your browser -> click Wireless -> Wireless Security.

Set:

Security Mode: WEP
WEP Encryption: 128 bits
Set up a Passphrase
Generate a key

write down your key so you can enter it into your wireless pc.

What is a key? Out of the 4, 1 is already there and it is my homephone #. Should I be concerned?

Your Key 1 is your homephone #? my homephone number is only 10 digits (11 if you add a 1+phone number)

Did you select 128 bit 26 hex digits? My key is 26 digits long.

No I haven't changed it from 64 to bits 10 hex digits. That's what it said when I got there. And my homephone # was already there as the 1st key. And how would this encryption affect my Linksys game adapter. Which gives my room Xbox Live. So you know I need it.

I'm not sure how it will affect your game adapter, you might want to call linksys. In my experience their tech support has been great.

Thing is ... someone just needs to know your phone number or try your phone number as a WEP key and they will have access to your router.

Is the passphrase or WEP key required to access the internet? And my WEP key has 26 digits? And what are the other 3 keys for?
